From “we help them” to “they help themselves”

F2F empowers people to help themselves by building strong relationships and judiciously using small grants. This August, the Kang’oma community in Malawi coordinated 55 chiefs, youth groups, and scores of others to conduct its first census. One result — 60% of its residents have no education at all. Getting involved!

Face-to-Face not only means that supporters and donors know exactly who is being helped, it also can mean that you might start dating the person in front of you! Members of the LuziCare student group at Colby College in Maine are hosting a speed dating fundraising event on campus on Thursday October 19 to raise funds for the Chadika community youth group in Malawi. May heartstrings pull out the wallets!

In Memoriam

This week Face-to-Face AIDS faced the devastating loss of one of our youth participants, Beatrice, age 16. Beatrice was born in 1995 and was in Form 2 at Kamuzu Barracks Secondary school. She was an active member of our teen club until her death on Sunday October 9, 2011. In the 6th grade, she was a relatively newly registered participant in our Malawi Ticket to Success program.

About Face to Face

The Face to Face Mission

We empower impoverished people to strengthen their communities and better their lives in. In Cambodia, F2F turns the stigmatized into role models with the ability to help others through community centers that provide education and vocational training. Our work in Malawi utilizes innovative, holistic projects such as sustainable cooperative gardens, healthcare training, and youth programs. F2F gives communities the ability to help themselves.

Helping people in need by building stronger communities

The Face-to-Face AIDS Project (F2F) believes the best way to overcome HIV and poverty is to strengthen the ability of communities to care for their own. Working closely with village chiefs, local leaders, and neighborhood groups, F2F nurtures projects that offer long-lasting, self-sustaining support to vulnerable individuals and their communities in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Raising awareness and generating support

In the United States, F2F raises awareness of the global AIDS pandemic and its role in extreme poverty. Since 2004, F2F has traveled to schools, community groups, museums, and other venues to show the AIDS PhotoMosaics. These unique installations put individual faces on an epidemic of hard-to-fathom proportions, reminding us all of the people and stories behind the statistics.
