LuziCare Tournament for Chadika

On April 21st, LuziCare, a student-led initiative at Colby College, hosted its first annual Hoops 4 Humanity basketball tournament to raise funds and awareness for Chadika. Luzi members held sign-ups for teams of 3 students willing to play for the cause. The event was a huge success- almost forty students played in the single-elimination tournament Saturday afternoon. Players ranged from novice to varsity level, but all had an enjoyable time. The winners were rewarded with a prize basket filled with deserts, LuziCare t-shirts, and gift certificates donated by local businesses. In total, the event raised $150 that the club will send to Chadika in the fall as part of its yearly donation. Both LuziCare members and the tournament participants thought the event was a great way to fundraise and to make students aware of how they can help the club in the future. LuziCare hopes to host the second annual tournament next spring!

A Successful Gala on December 9

We raised close to $50,000 for our new community center for people suffering from HIV and poverty in Siem Reap, Cambodia at our first ever gala event in the Grand Room at the Open Center on 30th Street and Madison Avenue. F2F’s board of directors, staff, and a valuable team of volunteers hosted around 100 people at the event, which included an open bar, homemade hors d’oeuvres, a continuous loop slide show, a stunning depiction of the community center and the people who’ll benefit from it, presentations, and announcements of donations received throughout the night.

Countdown to the Crossfit Zurich 24in24 Event

With the Crossfit Zurich 24in24 event taking place tomorrow, December 3, the Face to Face AIDS team would like to send their best wishes and support to these 18 amazing athletes who are raising money to build a community outreach center in Malawi.  Congratulations on raising almost $17,000 so far!!

Making It Happen: A Fundraiser on December 9

On December 9, Face-to-Face AIDS Project will be hosting a special fundraiser to help raise $125,000 to build a community center in Siem Riep.  The center will house a wealth of exciting programs, including a school for impoverished children, arts and culture clubs, vocational training for adults, and test plots and ponds for organic gardens and fish farming.

November 1, 2011: Love for Luzicare

Love was in the air on the night of October 20th, when Colby College held a speed dating event in a dorm lounge, hosted by Face-to-Face’s LuziCare and another student group on campus called SHOC (Student Health On Campus). LuziCare held a raffle throughout the week leading up to the event. They sold raffle tickets for an iPod Nano, a Flip Camera, and two gift certificates for popular restaurants in Waterville. At the event, people were encouraged to donate or buy a raffle ticket, and the winners were announced at the end.

The night was a huge success–there were over 120 people in attendance, bigger than it has ever been. They even ran out of table space so people were having their dates standing up! LuziCare raised approximately $500–the most amount of money they’ve raised in a single event. The attendees were very enthusiastic about meeting a possible new love interest, supporting LuziCare and SHOC, as well as having fun.
